Wavy Line Revisited

March 22, 2012

On Sunday we went for a Mother’s Day lunch at a local South Indian restaurant.

Thirty years ago the building was a Wavy Line grocery store and you could have seen these hand-painted tile panels made locally by Carter’s on the internal wall.

I have been trying to find out what happened to the panels and the Borough conservation officer recently told me she thinks they were boarded over when the shop was converted in 1992.

The walls are now a plain bright green.   I don’t think this is an improvement.

  1. Just been up to look through the Poole Pottery related material in the county archives and discovered a clipping from the local paper from 1995. The tiles had been ‘rediscovered’ by a restauranteur who was going to feature them in his Italian restaurant. I wonder when they’ll next be rediscovered, I hope it won’t be too long.
