Julian Face

Julian face, a photo by Woodlanda on Flickr.

Went to Southbourne one evening a couple of weeks ago and managed to catch this face in the dramatic evening light.

It’s part of Julian Terrace in Seabourne Road which was produced by Carters in the 1920’s for the architect, Mr Ware. In the seventies I interviewed a craftsman who worked for Carters during this period, and, if I don’t misremember, he told me that Mr Ware was known as Hoppy because he only had one leg.

This part of Southbourne is quite run down now and the shops beneath the upper storey are looking a bit tatty.
